Seville is the artistic, cultural and financial capital of Andalusia district and Seville province. It is located in the plane where the Guadalkivir river passes. The population of the city is 704 414 (data from 2009), and its area is 140 sq.km.
There are lots of history monuments that you can see in Seville. The Cathedral of Seville is a Gothic cathedral built in the period 1401 – 1519. It is richly decorated with gold ornaments. The Alkazar is an old Moorish palace, built more than 500 years ago. Moorish and Christian traditions are combined in its gardens. Torre del Oro is a defensive barrier over the river and a watchtower. It is worth seeing the Spain square too (Plaza de Espana). In Seville there are plenty of museums - archeology, marine, military, Museum of Contemporary Art, the carriages, flamenco, bullfighting and fine arts.
Seville is world famous for its rich parades during the Maundy week (the week before Easter). Entertainment continues two weeks after Easter. Large tents are being stretched. The streets in the tents are names after famous toreadors. Women put on their flamenco dresses and men - their best costumes hubavote. All together they give up to songs, dances and merriment.
