Porto is the second largest city in Portugal. It is the capital of the Norte region. The population of the city is 221 800 inhabitants (data from 2008). The area of Porto is 41.66 square kilometers. The city is situated at the mouth of the Douro River. Porto is considered as an economic and cultural center of the whole region.
The historical center of Porto is in the UNESCO list of world heritage. Among the architectural sights of the city is Oporto Cathedral. It is one of the oldest monuments in the city, and one of the most important in Portugal. The Kedofeyta church is a medieval church in Roman style. The interior of the Gothic Church of St. Francis is in Baroque style. Other sights are the remains of fortress walls and a few houses from the XV century. Special attraction is the building of the stock exchange. Interesting are also the gardens of the crystal palace.
