Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania. It is situated in north-eastern part of the country. Vilnius is at the inflow of the Neris River in Vila River. The city has a very interesting architecture. It has an old and new area as most of cities. The old town is the historical center of Vilnius. The buildings were built over several centuries. Because of this there are various architectural styles.
Here are some of the major sights. "St. Peter and Paul" Cathedral is a masterpiece of baroque. Other sights are the square of the town hall "St. Francis", "St. Anna" church. "The gates of dawn" are part of the former defense ramparts. The Higher Castle was built in the XIII century and reveals wonderful views of the city. In the city is the center for avant-garde visual arts.
